Wooden Palm Tree – Small Hand-Painted Tropical Tree Toy

Palms Around the World

Palms are among the most recognisable plants on Earth, and some grow astonishingly tall: the wax palms of the Andes can reach 60 metres, taller than any other palm. Colombia is thought to have more kinds of palm than any other country.

Most palms need warmth all year round. Of the roughly 2,600 species, only about 130 grow naturally outside the tropics – which is why a palm tree on the play table so quickly means summer, sea and faraway places.

Also available as a Large Palm Tree. Build a tropical corner with the Small Banana Tree and Small Acacia Tree.

Height × Width × Depth: 23.5 × 14.0 × 1.8 cm (9.3 × 5.5 × 0.7 in)

All pieces are shaped from solid ash wood and hand-sanded to a smooth finish with no sharp edges. The crown and trunk are hand-painted with water-based paints, the base keeps the natural grain of the ash, and every piece is finished with olive oil, which protects the wood against moisture. No plastics, no solvent-based finishes, no MDF, no veneers. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural part of handmade production, not defects.

A little piece of summer for the play table.

A palm tree tells children where a story takes place before anyone says a word – a beach, an island, an oasis in the desert. Small and steady, it is easy to move from scene to scene, and its ringed trunk invites a first lesson in how palms grow differently from the trees outside the window.

Inspired by Montessori and Waldorf principles, the palm is simple in form and real in its details, with no batteries, sounds or buttons. The child decides who rests in its shade.

Solid ash is dense and hard-wearing, and every tree is sanded and painted by hand in our workshop in Romania. Tree by tree, the forest grows with the child and lasts long enough to be passed on.
