Seasonal wooden toys carry a different quality from everyday playthings — they are objects of ritual as much as play. Brought out at the same time each year, they mark time, hold memory and give children a sense of continuity. A handmade wooden nativity or Christmas figure, cared for year after year, teaches children something about patience and the value of things made with human hands.
