Wooden Drone Bee – Handcrafted Hive Companion Figurine

Unlike worker bees, drones do not collect nectar or produce honey. Their biological role is reproduction — ensuring the continuation and genetic diversity of the colony.

Each piece is carved from a single block of solid ash wood, hand-sanded and painted in layers. The finish is olive oil: natural, protective and gentle on the wood grain. No plastic components. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural characteristic of handmade production — not defects.

The bee collection tells the story of the hive — queen, drone, worker, each with a role and each dependent on the others. Children begin to understand ecosystem and interdependence through their own hands.

Part of our Waldorf Animals & Birds collection. Pairs with our Beehive House, wooden trees and nature accessories.

Height: 7.8 cm ; Width: 4.8 cm ; Depth 3.4 cm (3.07 x 1.89 x 1.34 inches)

Solid ash wood. Hand-painted with water-based, non-toxic paints in multiple layers. Finished with olive oil. No plastic components. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural characteristic of handmade production — not defects. Each piece is unique.

The bee collection is a rare example of a toy that is genuinely educational without being didactic. Children who play with these figures learn about the structure of the hive — queen, drone, worker — through curiosity and play rather than instruction. Understanding interdependence and ecosystem from an early age builds the kind of ecological literacy that matters.
