Wooden Inuit People Toy – Large Set – Handcrafted Montessori & Waldorf Figurines

What’s in the Set

This large set brings together an entire Inuit community — 8 figurines, 3 scenic bases, an igloo, a husky with sled, a kayak, and a full catch of fish. Every piece is hand-carved from solid ash wood and hand-painted.

• Father — standing on his sled, guiding it through the snow
• Mother — standing, watching over the family
• Boy with fishing rod — crouching at the ice hole, line in the water with a fish on the hook
• Two girls carrying fish — each holding one end of a wooden pole with 3 fish strung across it
• Boy in kayak — seated in a solid ash wood kayak, paddle in hand
• Little boy — holding a large fish in his arms
• Little girl — standing beside her mother
• Husky dog — hand-painted white, harnessed to the sled with a cord
• Wooden sled — loaded with a stack of logs
• Kayak — hand-carved from solid ash wood with a wooden paddle
• Igloo — hand-carved and painted, with an open arched entrance
• Large Arctic base — sculpted and painted ice floe with an open water channel for the kayak
• Igloo base — sculpted Arctic ice base on which the igloo sits
• Ice fishing base — sculpted ice floe with a round fishing hole at the centre
• 5 fish — 3 strung on the girls’ pole, 1 on the fishing rod, 1 in the little boy’s arms

Each piece is carved from a single block of solid ash wood, hand-sanded and painted in layers. Finished with pure olive oil — natural, protective, and gentle on the wood grain. No plastic components. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural characteristic of handmade production — not defects.

Solid ash wood — dense, smooth-grained and exceptionally durable. Each figurine is hand-shaped, then hand-sanded through multiple grits for a silky finish. Painted with water-based, non-toxic paints applied in multiple fine layers, then sealed with pure olive oil for a natural, child-safe protective coating. The scenic bases (Arctic ice floes, igloo) are hand-shaped and hand-painted from solid wood. The sled is assembled from multiple hand-finished ash wood pieces. The kayak is shaped from a single solid ash wood block. No plastic components, no MDF, no veneers. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Each piece is unique — small variations in colour and wood grain are the signature of genuine handmade work.

The Arctic is one of the most extreme and fascinating environments on earth. The people who call it home built an entire way of life around ice, water, dogs, fish, and community — with no margin for waste and no room for shortcuts.

This set brings that world into a child’s hands in a way that feels real. Not a cartoon version, not a simplified toy. Every figurine has a role, every accessory tells a story: the father driving the sled, the girls carrying the catch, the boy patient at his ice hole. Children naturally build narratives around these scenes — about work, family, seasons, and survival — without being told what to think.

Aligned with Montessori and Waldorf principles, this set supports open-ended imaginative play, fine motor development, and cultural curiosity. The variety of figurines and props gives children a world rich enough to get lost in, while leaving all the stories up to them.

Built from solid ash wood and finished with olive oil, it is safe, durable, and designed to be passed down. This is the kind of toy that ends up in a child’s memory as clearly as in their toybox.
