Wooden Native American Wolf Lodge Figurines – Teepee, Chief & Bear Hide

Life in the Wolf Lodge

On the Great Plains, a painted tipi often said something about the family who lived in it, and animal hides were part of everyday life: bison and bear robes kept people warm through winter nights and served as bedding. Hunters sometimes wore wolf skins to approach bison herds unseen – a practice the painter George Catlin recorded in the 1830s.

Like the other Noelino Native American sets, the Wolf Lodge is a play scene inspired by Plains life, not a reconstruction of one specific nation.

All pieces are shaped from solid ash wood and hand-sanded to a smooth finish with no sharp edges. They are hand-painted with water-based paints and finished with olive oil, which protects the wood against moisture. No plastics, no solvent-based finishes, no MDF, no veneers. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural part of handmade production, not defects.

An evening scene that invites quiet, story-led play.

The Wolf Lodge shows a family at the end of the day: someone returns from outside, someone is already asleep, a child kneels by the hide. Recreating these small routines – coming home, preparing for the night, caring for younger ones – children practise sequencing, empathy and language, and start asking how families lived through the seasons in a home they could carry with them.

The set is inspired by Montessori and Waldorf principles: real materials, simple forms, and figures with no batteries, sounds or buttons. The poses – standing, kneeling, sleeping – suggest a moment rather than a script, so the child decides what happens next.

Solid ash is dense and hard-wearing, and every piece is sanded and painted by hand in our workshop in Romania. Each piece is sold individually, so the lodge can grow over the years and join the River Camp and Bear Clan in one larger village.
