Wooden Acacia Tree – Small Hand-Painted Savanna Tree Toy

The Acacia Family

Acacias belong to the same plant family as beans and peas. Like them, they work together with bacteria in their roots to take nitrogen from the air, and when their leaves fall, that nitrogen enriches the dry savanna soil for the plants around them.

There are more than 1,400 kinds of acacia, from tall trees to low shrubs, and most of them grow in Australia. Botanists have recently moved many of the African species into new groups with names such as Vachellia, but on the savanna and in storybooks they are still simply acacias.

Also available as a Large Acacia Tree. Build a savanna with the Small Baobab Tree and Small African Ebony Tree, and add the Realistic Safari Animals.

Height × Width × Depth: 20.0 × 16.0 × 1.8 cm (7.9 × 6.3 × 0.7 in)

All pieces are shaped from solid ash wood and hand-sanded to a smooth finish with no sharp edges. The crown and trunk are hand-painted with water-based paints, the base keeps the natural grain of the ash, and every piece is finished with olive oil, which protects the wood against moisture. No plastics, no solvent-based finishes, no MDF, no veneers. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural part of handmade production, not defects.

A savanna sunset in a single tree.

With its orange crown and dark branches, the small acacia looks like the trees in a savanna sunset – a strong, simple shape that children recognise at once. It gives safari animals a place to gather, and opens questions about heat, drought and how plants and animals share a dry landscape.

Inspired by Montessori and Waldorf principles, the acacia is simple in form and real in its details, with no batteries, sounds or buttons. It is light, steady and easy to move from one scene to the next.

Solid ash is dense and hard-wearing, and every tree is sanded and painted by hand in our workshop in Romania. Tree by tree, the savanna grows with the child and lasts long enough to be passed on.
