Wooden Palm Tree – Large Hand-Painted Tropical Tree Toy

About the Palm Tree

Palm trees look like trees, but botanically they are closer to grasses than to oaks. They belong to the monocots, and their trunks never form the yearly growth rings found inside other trees. The rings you can see on the outside of a palm trunk – and on this one – are scars left by old fronds that have fallen away.

There are about 2,600 kinds of palm, most of them in the tropics. The best-known is the coconut palm, whose fruit can float across the sea for weeks and still sprout when it washes up on a new beach.

Assembled tree – Height × Width × Depth: 32.0 × 18.0 × 3.6 cm (12.6 × 7.1 × 1.4 in)

All pieces are shaped from solid ash wood and hand-sanded to a smooth finish with no sharp edges. The crown and base are hand-painted with water-based paints, the trunk keeps the natural grain of the ash, and every piece is finished with olive oil, which protects the wood against moisture. No plastics, no solvent-based finishes, no MDF, no veneers. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural part of handmade production, not defects.

An island, an oasis, a beach – wherever the child needs one.

A palm tree changes the story the moment it appears on the play table: a desert becomes an oasis, a blue cloth becomes the sea, a group of animals becomes a journey. Building it from four pieces asks for patience and careful hands, and the ringed trunk invites a simple question – why does a palm have rings on the outside?

Inspired by Montessori and Waldorf principles, the palm connects play with real places children hear about in books and on holidays. There are no batteries, sounds or buttons – the child leads the play.

Solid ash is dense and hard-wearing, and every piece is sanded and painted by hand in our workshop in Romania. Tree by tree, the forest grows with the child and lasts long enough to be passed on.
