Where the Witch Hat Came From

The tall, pointed black hat became the witch's signature in illustrations of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and Halloween cards and decorations made it one of the season's most recognisable shapes. Some historians link it to the tall hats worn in earlier centuries, though no single origin is certain — which leaves plenty of room for stories.

In this house, the hat has become a home of its own: crooked, a little grumpy, and ready to welcome whoever knocks at its door on Halloween night.

Solid ash wood. The house and its removable door are each shaped from solid ash and hand-sanded smooth. Hand-painted with water-based paints in multiple layers, olive oil finish. No plastics, no solvent-based finishes, no MDF, no veneers. Made in conformity with the European toy safety standard EN 71. Small variations in colour and grain are a natural characteristic of handmade production — not defects. Each piece is unique.

A little house with a big personality.

A house with a face invites children to wonder who lives inside and what it thinks of its visitors. Opening and closing the door, placing figures at the windows and building a Halloween village around it develops fine motor control, spatial thinking and storytelling.

Inspired by Montessori and Waldorf principles, the Witch Hat Fairy House is an open-ended play piece in natural wood. It can be a witch's cottage, a haunted inn or a hiding place for ghosts, and it looks just as good on a shelf or nature table when play is over.

Shaped from solid ash and finished by hand, it is made to come out every autumn for years, sturdy enough for daily play and distinctive enough to become a family keepsake.
